Our Work

In June 2013, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) published a policy to encourage the wider adoption of an integrated Catchment Based Approach to improving the quality of the water environment.
The objectives for the Catchment Based Approach are:
Adopting the approach will enable the partnership to understand pressures on the catchment and how to address them, provide a platform for engagement, discussion and decisions of much wider benefits, and develop a plan to enhance the catchment. Investigations show that pollution from waste water discharges and diffuse sources, physical modifications which affect fish passage and invasive species are some of the main challenges for the catchment.
The objectives for the Catchment Based Approach are:
- To deliver positive and sustained outcomes for the water environment by promoting a better understanding of the environment at a local level; and
- To encourage local collaboration and more transparent decision-making when both planning and delivering activities to improve the water environment.
Adopting the approach will enable the partnership to understand pressures on the catchment and how to address them, provide a platform for engagement, discussion and decisions of much wider benefits, and develop a plan to enhance the catchment.
